My open wood fireplace is equipped with a heat recovery system from the 1980s. Is it possible to close it with a two-leaf glass door without removing this heat recovery or is it strongly discouraged?
It's impossible because it's too risky. There would be a problem of ventilation and fresh air supply which would cause a risk of backflow: it is always necessary to calculate the relative volume of the fireplace relative to the entry of the flue. Number of chimneys smoke when this ratio is not good.
