Stand Alone Smoke Alarm (DAAF) KIDDE 10Y29

Although DAAFs are strictly calibrated to trigger only in case of significant smoke emission, false alarms are possible in case of significant intake of water vapor or puff of untimely smoke. The KIDDE 10Y29 model has an interesting "pause" button that allows the siren to be temporarily interrupted in the event of a false alarm.

Usage tips

This photoelectric sensor alarm quickly detects the onset of fire, at the first significant smoke releases. The siren emits a shrill sound when the concentration of smoke in the atmosphere reaches a certain threshold. The apparatus includes a photocell that emits a light beam to a target. When a fire breaks out, the smoke rises to the ceiling and enters the unit. When it passes in front of the cell, the smoke causes the diffraction of the light. The target no longer captures the light beam, which triggers the alarm. This model has the "pause" button (Hush®) which temporarily deactivates the alarm (for about 10 minutes). This ability to mute the alarm is very useful near the kitchen or a room with an open fire, places subject to false alarms.
It is imperative to install a smoke detector in the clearance that gives access to the rooms so that the signal can be heard by all. For an optimal protection, it is good to equip a detector (at least) on each level of the house and by slice of 70 m ² habitable. However, it is not recommended to install a smoke detector in the kitchen, the bathroom and shower, in a bathroom, garage and boiler room; this is to avoid false alarms caused by steam, moisture or cooking fumes.
