This electrical diagram illustrates the principles of installation benefiting from single-phase power supply greater than or equal to 18kVa, in accordance with the requirements of standard NF C15-100.
For the amateur, a pre-wired electrical panel at the head of installation makes things a lot easier! It saves a lot of time and the certainty of following the safety rules imposed by the standard. The extra cost compared to the purchase of separate items is not very important.

The installation of a switch-controlled lighting is simple, provided you respect the color code applied by the electricians, as well as the electric plan of the house. We start from a junction box from which we draw two son. The live wire (red or any other color other than blue - reserved for neutral - or green, yellow, green-yellow - reserved for the earth) is the one on which the cut will be made. It is therefore directed to the switch. The neutral wire (blue) will join him, the socket. After passing through the switch, the phase wire changes color to generally adopt brown, black or gray (it can be any color other than those reserved for neutral or earth). Warning: a ground wire must be available at the socket!
When a switch is placed outside the room where it controls a lighting (bathroom, cupboard, cellar staircase, etc.), it is good to take a model with indicator that avoids to leave unnecessarily light in the room where it is no longer.The lighting of the indicator requires to pull a neutral wire to the switch.
Nightmare of amateur electricians, the up-and-down is not very difficult to wire. We use here switches (in no longer a switch that each one a two-position rocker.The wiring principle is the same as that of a switch: phase driver to the switches, neutral wire to the switch.But here we pull two "shuttle" wires between the poles of the switches for controlling the lighting from two points distant from each other (for example at the two ends of a corridor).
This assembly meets the same needs as those of a light switch: avoid forgetting to turn off the light in a place where one is no longer, one of the two switches is out of the lighted room ( typical case of a cellar staircase).
When it is necessary to control a point of light for more than two points, the back and forth system is no longer suitable. We then go to contactor, system using a relay and push buttons. Each of them is connected on the one hand to the relay, on the other hand to the phase they control by simple impulse.
The current trend is to integrate the remote control switch to the electrical panel, which simplifies the installation and especially avoids perceiving the characteristic operating clatter of the device in a living room.
A moment forgotten in favor of the remote control, the timer takes all its meaning with the need to ensure energy savings. Once independent, it comes to take place today directly on the electrical board, like other equipment such as the remote control or the load cell.
Rather than installing a chime near the front door, today you can place the doorbell module on the electrical panel, like other equipment.
The dimmer has become a must-have device in every room of the house where it can be interesting to modulate the lighting. This is particularly the case in the living room, in the dining room or in a room. The connection is not fundamentally different from that of a switch.

The EJP tariff (erasing peak days) allows you to benefit for 343 days per year from a tariff close to that of off-peak hours regardless of the time of day. For 22 days, spread between 1 November and 31 March, the price per kWh is higher. Informed of these 22 days, you are encouraged to reduce your consumption during these peak days. This small switch placed on the electrical panel does the job automatically.
Heating control schemes
The regulation of heating is a factor of economy and comfort. A centralization of the action of the room thermostat can be realized thanks to this device, easy to install.
A very elaborate programming of your electric heating system can be obtained thanks to the centralization of this type of multi-zone thermostat, which can be programmed over two weeks. The operation of the electric heaters is thus precisely modulated according to your needs.
The operation of some electrical devices can be programmed simply by this kind of device. This is the case of a sign, a window, but it can also be the lighting of a course or a driveway. The time is typically done by rotating a knurled knob, segments to define the time range. This is the centralized application of a classic plug programmer.
This is the modern version of mechanical programmable switches. More precise, easy to adjust, it also saves significant space on the electrical panel.
Schemes of specific protections
A specific box to ensure optimum protection of the water heater and its operation during off-peak hours.
Not to be confused with the lightning rod, the arrester does not protect against the lightning itself but against its potential effects on an installation, by return by the ground.
Essential component of the electrical panel, the differential circuit breaker ensures a perfect protection of the circuits, in particular in case of loss of insulation of a device connected to the protected circuit. It can be installed on the distribution board as well as circuits to be protected, and in priority on those supplying wet rooms.
A good standard installation has 2 differential switches (not to be confused with the differential switches) which are placed upstream of the two main families of circuits of the installation: outlets and lighting / specialized circuits (heating, water heater, etc.). A 40A - 30mA type AC switch protects the first one, a 40A - 30mA type A switch protects the second one, all having a circuit breaker device (ideally division circuit breakers).
Telephone wires are used to pass signals for many other applications. The wiring diagram of a phone jack, called RJ45 is therefore known by any good handyman (if only in case of accidental tearing). Legrand Schemes
