Make a work plan

You can see in the sheet "Making slatted doors" how to make cheap kitchen doors. We suggest you integrate them in a set to combine sink, hob and worktop. This piece of furniture will be the centerpiece of your kitchen design.

Necessary material

  • square
  • Metre
  • Hammer
  • Clamps
  • Screwdriver
  • Drill
  • Jigsaw

Steps

  1. Realization of the frame
  2. Installing the sink and cooktop

Realization of the frame

Get the mortises by superposition

Get the mortises by superposition

1. The two 5 mm thick slats are placed one on top of the other. Trace by guiding you on a square and cut then, to obtain the mortises by superposition. The lower and upper sides of the front frame are thus provided with mortices at equal distances.

Assemble the three slats

2. The three slats (two of which are 10 mm thick) are assembled. Make a good gluing before nailing.

Tenon of frame amounts

3. The frame pillars will be used as door stops. They are provided with a tenon at each end to integrate with the previously made sides.

4. Perform the assembly. You will notice that the ends of the two horizontal sides are also provided with tenons.

Placing the pedestal and partitions

Make the base

5. Now go to the realization of the base. Its length is that of the frame previously made, its width corresponding to the depth you want for your furniture.

Screw the base

Screw the base

6. Two ties are fixed inside the base, glued and nailed, to reinforce its cohesion and ensure better stability to the furniture. Once the base is made, fix it by screwing against the inside of the frame, so that it is flush with the inner edge of the side.

Set up the lower board

7. The lower board of furniture is fixed on the base, against the bottom of the frame. We used laminate 16 mm thick.

Drill the song of the partitions

8. Using a laminate board used as a template, trace the profile of the partitions behind each post in order to drill, after identification, the holes for the assembly pins. After drilling, put in place the marking points and locate opposite vis-à-vis the edge of the partitions.

9. The drilling was done and the pins are put in place. Now proceed to assembly.

Fix the upper board

10. The upper board of furniture is fixed by trunnion in the upper edges of the partitions. It takes a lot of precision for this job.

Installing the sink and cooktop

Draw the outline of the sink

11. Setting up the sink. Return the sink unit to the top of the cabinet, where you want it, and trace the outline.

Draw the second path

12. The edges of the sink will rest on the top board. Also, determine inside the first plot a second exactly parallel plot.

Cut out the upper board

Cut out the upper board

13. Drill at one of the angles of this second line, to introduce the blade of the jigsaw; then cut.

Cut out the amount

14. Now remove the tray and, after having reported the height of the sink, cut out the amount that it will overlap, in order to embed it.

Fix the sink unit

15. Replace the tray and insert the sink unit into the housing prepared for this purpose; it will also be kept on the board, screwed from underneath.

Furniture finishes

Framing of cleats

17. To the outer edges of the board is fixed a frame of cleats, which, once dyed the same color as the frame and the amounts, camouflage the top of the construction for the aesthetics of the whole.

18. Place a silicone seal along the cabinet and against the wall to protect the interior of your furniture.
