1. All damage to this radiator shelf: complete breakage, splinters, chipped edges, etched surfaces... are however easily repairable.

2. First, be sure to clean and degrease carefully all parts to be stuck together.
Use for this a trichlorethylene substitute or alcohol.
Allow to dry then long enough, to avoid any reaction with the products used later.

Prepare the glue.

Prepare the glue

The glue consisting of two components must be mixed quickly.
If color mixing is also required, perform this procedure before adding the hardener.
Also keep in mind that the hue brightenes on drying.

Apply the glue on the parts to be glued.

4. The glue should be quickly spread over both parts to be glued.
All surfaces should be coated with a thin layer of glue.
For this operation, use a spatula, a steel putty knife, or even better a palette knife at the sharp end.

Press the two parts strongly to glue them together.

5. Lay a newspaper sheet on the intended work surface, it must be perfectly flat. Place the two glued parts on the work surface, press them firmly against each other for a few seconds.
Normally, the excess glue should come out and form a slight bead on the surface.

Spread the glue on the surface to cover the holes.

6. Spread the glue on the surface before it becomes too thick, this way we will fill in the small holes bordering the break.
If there are extra thicknesses, do not let them dry.
Using alcohol to clean, immediately clean the knife before the glue hardens.

Remove excess glue with a rag and alcohol to burn.

7. The excess glue on the marble must also be removed with alcohol to burn.
Run a cloth over the breakage seal without over-stressing, being careful not to move the plate.

Reposition a marble shine

1. Whatever the size of the piece to be glued, the procedure remains the same: clean the surfaces to be glued, deposit the glue on the two parts concerned, then put the piece in its place by pressing strongly.

Put glue in the hole and smooth the surface.

2. Using the knife, smooth the surface by plugging any holes.
The excess must be wiped with a rag soaked in alcohol.

3. The gluing product shrinks when drying, allow the glue to form a slight protuberance.
Once dry, this small bump can be removed by sanding.

Shard on a ridge

1. First of all, put a newspaper sheet under the plate.

Apply the glue on the edge.

2. Then spread the glue on the area to be repaired, as a coating is applied.

Mold the glue using newspaper.

3. Then fold the newspaper in order to "mold" the glue according to the desired profile.
This method is particularly useful for repairing, for example, a marble embedded in a curved rabbet or irregular.

Remove the paper.

4. Remove the newspaper when the glue is almost hard.

5. It is possible that the profile obtained is not perfect.
You can then touch it up with the knife.
When the repaired area is dry at heart, we can then begin the sanding operation.

Sand the repairs on the marble

Sanding with fine abrasive water.

Sanding with fine abrasive water

1. Successful sanding is achieved with sufficiently fine abrasives. They can be used by hand, with a wooden wedge or a wedge of cork for flat parts.
In order, start with a abrasive end to water 150then to finish with an abrasive with 320 or 400 water.
For a nice finish, we must describe small circles with the abrasive.

2. When sanding is complete, wipe the marble with a damp cloth.
Then plan a polishing operation, made with a special powder that crystallizes the marble and gives it the desired brilliance.
This must be done with a very tight cloth pad, powder coated and moistened.
Scrub for a long time, proceeding in small circles.

3. Next, wipe the marble with a clean cloth.
To go further in the finish and shine, pass on the surface of the marble a colorless polish containing oil of bitter almonds, even an encaustic with the vegetable wax, to avoid however the beeswax which tends to foul.
Finally, shine with a soft cloth.

Remove stains from marble

Marble stained with colored circles

1. A stained marble does not always require a complete repolishing, spot stain can be sufficient, this is for example often the case of traces of round glass on a pedestal table.
In this case, it is sufficient most of the time to pass on the marble stained a clean cloth soaked with trichlorethylene substitute, then to encaustic.
Another "recipe": use a lemon cut in half.

Rub the stains with a trichlorethylene substitute.

2. When glasses or bottles leave colored circles on the marble, they can sometimes be removed in the same way: a clean cloth soaked with trichlorethylene substitute.
If the marble is marked in depth, it remains the previously described process: sanding, crystallization and polishing.
