Building an indoor pool can not be improvised. To be fully successful, its installation in an enclosed area requires specific facilities for the treatment of air and water, dehumidification and heating.
The indoor pool: the necessary amenities
Indoor pool and sound insulation
An indoor pool can be noisy. The sound waves reverberated on the pond water and the sounds are amplified. It is essential to provide good sound insulation so as not to be disturbed in the rest of the house.
In addition, the heating, dehumidification or ventilation systems are also noisy. The technical room must also be well insulated.
Indoor pool and humidity
A basin filled with water in a closed room automatically generates moisture by condensation or evaporation.
The part must therefore be designed to withstand this constraint, which can cause significant damage to the frame (corrosion of materials, molds or fungi). All materials used must be able to withstand moisture. In particular surface coatings that must be anti-corrosion.
To limit condensation, the walls, ceiling and floor must be properly insulated. It is the same for glazing that may end up constantly covered with steam.
To limit evaporation, it is strongly recommended to cover the pool with a tarpaulin or shutters when not in use. It is thus possible to achieve about 30% savings on the annual operating cost of the pool.
Indoor pool and ventilation
To have a high air circulation, plan for sufficient ceiling height. Otherwise, install a powerful ventilation system that will also participate in the dehumidification of the air. As needed, ventilation can be provided by a VMC or extractor.
Indoor pool and dehumidification
The dehumidifier is essential for an indoor pool. The unit will absorb hot, humid air and cool it down. By cooling the humidity of the air will condense. The water thus recovered is discharged into a tank or through a drain pipe. The air coming out is hot and dry.
Ideally, the humidity level in the room is between 60 and 70% maximum.
The power of the dehumidifier must be adapted to the amount of water that evaporates from the pool. This calculation takes into account the dimensions of the room and the pool, the temperature of the water and the air, the hygrometry of the room.
The most complete dehumidifiers also allow space heating and water heating.
Indoor pool and heating
There must be a balance between the temperature of the room and that of the water. The ideal is that the temperature of the air is the same as that of the water or with 1° additional. It is not recommended to exceed 30°. Beyond that, the water will evaporate too quickly.
To heat an indoor pool all year, the air / water heat pump is the equipment that is required.
All these facilities or equipment around the pool come to increase the cost of construction of the indoor pool. But what a pleasure!
Did you know? The indoor pool being in a closed room, you do not have the obligation as for the other in-ground pools to set up one of the 4 approved safety systems. But wisdom advises to do it all the same.
