Thanks to the kit systems, having a pool is no longer a privilege. Within the reach of a good handyman, the "ready-to-assemble" makes it possible to create an aesthetic and comfortable layout, at an affordable price.
Cost: 12 000 € the complete swimming pool kit (ladder, 75 / 100th PVC liner, filtration unit included)
Time: 4 days (for two people)
Equipment: picket, string, ruler, spirit level, puncher, mallet, wheelbarrow, set of keys, roll, bucket, cutter, screwdriver
The technical block
Automatic pool cleaning is provided by a skimmer. It is a surface skimmer equipped with a filter body made of ABS (plastic) with an integrated filtration system. The location of the skimmer is of no importance from a technical point of view. But for the aesthetics, it is better to place it in an inconspicuous place. The embedding window of the skimmer is delimited by the installation of two very short rails. Mark them during assembly. In addition to the water inlet to fill the pool, provide a power supply (protected by a 30 mA differential circuit breaker).
A reinforced concrete structure
With its wooden pool aspect, this realization uses only elements made of reinforced concrete. The structure takes a bit of the system of concrete fences. It consists of an alternation of grooved poles receiving smooth stacked on edge. All flanged at the bottom by slabs and sitting at the top by metal cables that surround the structure.
This "above ground" concrete model (Christine Caron pools) offers a pond height of 1.25 m. It comes in four lengths: 4.45 m; 5.70 m; 6.95 m and 8.20 m. For a common width of 4.25 m. As shown in the installation of this model of 4.25 x 6.95 m, the implementation is within the reach of a good handyman and does not require heavy or sophisticated tools.
A stable base
Even if it is a "light" construction (dismountable in principle), an above ground pool does not arise anywhere. To take full advantage of this equipment and its surroundings, a southern exposure is desirable. Test an area of implantation by bringing to the ground the silhouette of your future swimming pool (materialized by a simple garden hose). Take a look throughout the day to control the sunshine. If space is not lacking, avoid the proximity of trees: their leaves would fall into the future basin and could make shade.
Installing a pool of this size requires a stable base. Even if the manufacturer authorizes the direct laying of the base plates on a well compacted ground, it is preferable to make a concrete sole ensuring a solid support zone. This precaution avoids progressive settlement of the soil under the seat. A phenomenon often caused by the inevitable splashes of water during games in the pool.
Mark the area where your entire pool is located and pay off slightly to find a stable land. Level carefully to get a perfectly level floor that you control in all directions with a long ruler and a spirit level.
Position the seat slabs on the floor, adjust by taking the diagonals. Then plant some stakes to materialize the contours of your seat form. Then remove the slabs, establish the formwork (8 cm high) and cast the sole after having armed with a welded mesh.
Mount the wall
Once the concrete has hardened (count for at least eight days), lay on the foundation slabs. They are interconnected by a series of simply inserted U-shaped clips. As they are put in place, check that the slabs are level. A slight catching up can take place by slipping under the slabs a little sablon.
At each end, the slab has a perforation for fixing the posts. Drill the concrete footing through this lumen, inject chemical seal, and press a threaded rod segment. An extension of 2.5 cm from the threaded rod is sufficient to bolt the pole mounting plate. This principle of threaded rods, sealed in the seat, also ensures a solid anchoring of the slabs with the foundations in reinforced concrete.
For this pool 6.95 m long, each length has four poles. The two of the center are reinforced by a metal jamb. The pose begins with the establishment of a first leg and the post that it supports.
Once the two elements are bolted, line the grooves of the post with a rubberized tape. Then place the five smooth, one by one, stacking them against the throat of the post. Fixing the next post will clamp the first set of rails. The editing continues as well, moving in the same direction.

Once the structure installed (poles and smooth), the top of the smooth is capped with an aluminum profile. The top of each post then receives a plate charged to accommodate the elements of the coping (also imitation wood concrete).
To resist the pressure of the water, the whole of the top of the structure is guyed by a set of cables stretched between the posts. The cables are anchored directly in the support plates of the curbs. And each cable segment is equipped with a tensor (cable tightener by screwing).
The fixing of the curbs also strengthens the structure, by clamping all the poles between them at the same time. The long plates are simply bolted on the turntables.
Laying the liner
The watertightness of the pool is ensured by a PVC film, the liner. An underlay (underlay) made of special "antibacterial" felt is essential not only to preserve the liner, but also to obtain a perfect finish and improve the feeling of comfort to the touch.
Previously, line the bottom of the pool with a layer of sand, to drown the thickness of the baseplate. Pack it with the shovel and give a slight slope by going up on a band of 20 to 30 cm on the periphery of the basin.
Then cover the bottom of the pond with the felt strips. Line the walls, this time gluing the substrate with neoprene. Slowly as you pose to flush the air pockets.
The aluminum profiles that cover the top of the rails also serve as an anchor rail for the liner. They have a groove for the attachment of PVC film whose edge has a kind of mounting lip.
Enjoy a sunny day for the heat to soften the PVC film. Place the liner at the bottom of the pond, pushing the liner towards the edges to reduce any wrinkles. Then hang your "lip" in the groove of the profile and progress until you go around the pool.
When the liner is fully suspended, it must be helped to come against the walls. For this, push with the feet at the bottom of the smooth. As it fills, it must flatten perfectly against them.
Seat of concrete or concrete cleanliness
Two solutions for this model above ground: establish a concrete base on the sole support zone of the soles or make a clean concrete on the entire surface of implantation of the pool.
Pouring the concrete
If you opt for a seat limited to the soles (as here), the entire bottom of the pool will be upholstered with sand (very fine sand). Pour the concrete and make sure the trellis is halfway up.
Place the sole
The kit includes corner pads (octagonal plates) and assembly elements in their extension. Place the first item. With a well-set concrete base, the footing must be level.
Connect the two soles
At the connection between two flanges, in the hollow of the point of embedding of the post, two perforations receive a staple in stainless steel. Present the U opposite the two lights and push on the clip.
Set up the threaded rod
The posts are fixed by means of a metal connection bolted directly to the base. Drilling through the existing lights allows the installation by chemical sealing of a threaded rod.
Fix the pole
Start with a jamb. Install the hardware and check the verticality of the post at the spirit level before tightening the bolts. Then fill the grooves with rubberized tape.
Place the rails
Place the first smooth well at the bottom of the throat of the post, against the rubber seal. Each next item is placed on the edge of the previous one and then slid to abut against the post.
Install the second pole
Once the five rails are in place against the first post, install the next post (already lined with rubber bands). Plate it well against the rails and tighten the connector bolts with a wrench.
Mount smooth and poles alternately
The editing continues progressing always on the same side, to go around the future basin. The introduction of this alternation of smooth and poles can be performed by one person.
Line the sand floor
Line the sandy soil and level the best. A large snow shovel facilitates the shaping of the layer. On the periphery of the pool, climb slightly to cover the concrete footing.
Bolt the connector
After placing the aluminum profiles that fit on the edge of the rails, the top of each pole receives a PVC shim and a connector. The latter is bolted to the pole.
Belting the top of the pelvis
Stainless steel fittings surround the top of the pool. The cables are attached to the lug nuts that hold the connectors. Each cable is equipped with a tensor to ensure a good tightening.
Place the attachment points
The top of the connectors is then used to support the curbs that surround the pool. It is more practical to be then two to place the fixing points opposite the holes of the connectors.
Lay the felt
The underlay (antibacterial felt underlay) provides better comfort and preserves the liner. On the ground, the felt strips are simply laid edge to edge on the sandy layer.
On the vertical wall of the pool, the felt is laid by gluing. Line the smooth surface with the roller, then apply the underlay and slip it up to remove the air.
Cut out the felt
With a cutter, carefully cut the felt next to the skimmer mounting plate. Also make a small circular cut at the point of return of the filtered water.
Border the liner
In its upper part, the liner is bordered by a lip that fits into the groove of the aluminum profile. At this point, it is better to be two and progress each one in a way.
Open inside the window
Once the liner is well against the wall, place the frame and its seal facing the entrance of the skimmer. Screw tightly to obtain a perfect seal, then open the inside of this window to the cutter.
Remove the return of filtered water
The outlet of the filtered water return takes the same principle of cutting the liner. Carefully seal the seal against the PVC film before tightening the plastic ring.
Integrated filter block
This cartridge-integrated filtration unit offers the possibility of installing a "disposable sock" on the skimmer basket. This reduces the fouling of the cartridge by retaining the leaves and insects.
