The electric water heater is the simplest of domestic hot water generators. Easy to install and maintain, it is offered in a wide range of capacities and powers. This allows everyone to choose the model adapted to their needs, taking into account the equipment to feed and the occupancy of housing.

When the space available to install the device is large, choose a large capacity. But if the place is really counted, we must optimize by reconciling the capacity and dimensions of the device. This was the case in this studio, newly equipped with a shower and a sink.

Which model of cumulus to choose?

The space here is limited, limited by a wall cutaway and by the shower partition. In addition, the needs being modest, it was not necessary to provide a large storage volume. It is therefore in the range of small models (30 l is a minimum) that it was necessary to prospect. They exist of parallelepipedic or cylindrical form.
After reading the space, it appeared that only a cylindrical model was suitable. The choice fell on a wall vertical cumulus (Sauter) of 30 l. Its power of 2 KW allows it to heat its volume in one hour. Class 1 and with a high degree of protection against splashing water (IP 5), it could even be installed in volume 1 (in the projection of the bath or the receiver). Here the shower partition of 5 cm thick completely isolates the water heater from the water point.

Before laying

Some operations are to be done before hanging the water heater on the wall. The appliance has a cold water inlet (blue ring) and a hot water outlet (red ring) at the bottom. On this small model, both are 15 x 21. But the safety group that will equip the cold water inlet is only available in 20 x 27. It is therefore necessary to provide a female adapter fitting 15 x 21, male 20 x 27. The manufacturer capped the water heater tubing with a dielectric insulating sleeve to prevent electrolysis and corrosion. Do not remove them.
Coat the threads of the inlet manifold with sealing paste, then wind tightly a tow of tow. Screw in the adapter fitting. Mount the safety unit on the 20 x 27 male part, sealing as before. Finally screw the siphon at the base of the group.

Setting up

On this model, only one mounting plate is sufficient. Present it on the wall and control horizontally. Mark the four holes in pencil and drill four holes of Ø 8 x 80 mm into the wall, which will have nylon pegs of the same diameter. Fixing is carried out with a Ø 7 x 70 mm lag bolt tightened with the key. Hang the water heater body on the platen and check its verticality level.

The hydraulic connection

Make sure that the safety group is drained from Ø 16 mm copper pipe ending in a welded straight asymmetrical connection Ø 16 x 22. The largest part (22 mm) enters the side outlet of the siphon. The seal is ensured by a conical Neoprene seal compressed by the plastic ring of the siphon.
The cold water supply (Ø 14) ends with a 20 x 27 flanged collar which screws onto the inlet of the unit with the interposition of a flat fiber seal. The hot water outlet is also carried out by a Ø 14 pipe fitted with a 15 x 21 flanged collar fitting. It is screwed onto the water heater tubing after a Teflon seal has been fitted.
The riser (both hot-cold pipes), serves the small washbasin and the shower via T bypass. The pipes are formed in the bender and the welds are made of soft solder with tin.

The electrical connection

It is performed starting from a junction box fed from the board by a line with three conductors of 2.5 mm2. The protection is provided by a 30 mA high-sensitivity differential switch, followed by a 20 A magneto-thermal circuit breaker. Important: since the device is class 1, the green-yellow wire must be connected to earth.
The base of the device has a thermostat controlled by a knob. It allows to vary the temperature of the water at will. A light shows the heating.

The water heater must be equipped before assembly. Remove the bottom cover and check the tightness of the power cord lugs and the required grounding for a Class 1 appliance.

The hot and cold water pipes are 15 x 21 and the safety group is 21 x 27. Therefore, a 15 x 21 female - 21 x 27 male adapter fitting must be fitted. Coat the fillet with joint paste and roll up a little sponge on the cold water inlet. Screw on the adapter and tighten with the key. Renew the dough + strand operation on the 21 x 27 male part of the fitting.
