Functional and easy-going, integrated kitchens adopt a wide variety of styles. But whatever their arrangement, certain rules must be respected when installing appliances such as oven, refrigerator or hob.

An implantation scheme

Whether you set up your kitchen from kit items (Camif, Conforama, Lapeyre, Ikea...) or call in a professional (Cuisinella, Mobalpa, Schmidt...), the principles remain the same. We must first make a precise layout, which will also provide the different connections: power and water discharge, electrical connections, gas supply. Work done first.
In general, the kitchen is organized around three main poles: water (sink, dishwasher), cooking (hotplates, oven) and cold (refrigerator, freezer). This ideal arrangement aims to reduce its movements, improving user comfort while limiting the risk of a possible domestic accident.

Regulatory update

When renovating a kitchen, the electrical installation is regularly reviewed. The new one must meet the standard NF 15-100, which provides a ground connection and a differential protection of 30 mA. Often, new circuits have to be added to power the large appliances (hob, oven...) and install several outlets (2P + T) above the worktop for small appliances.

An electric oven (pyrolysis) and an induction hob each consume an average of 3 kW. To carry such power, it is necessary to use 6 mm2 conductors, connected directly at the output of a 32 A independent division circuit breaker. Washing machines require, for their part, cables with a minimum cross-section of 2.5 mm2 and the connection must be made on 16 A specific circuits.
The gas connection is now carried out by means of screw connections, in place of pipes that were laid with clamps. For this purpose, the gas inlet pipe is equipped with a standard threaded safety valve. The device can be connected with a flexible rubber tube with a maximum service life of five years, an elastomer-coated hose that is valid for ten years, or (ideally) a flexible hose. stainless steel braid with unlimited lifespan.

Change the air with a hood

Which means cooking plate implies the installation of a hood. This essential equipment for removing water vapor and cooking odors also helps reduce clogging of the walls and ceiling. Here again, it is necessary to provide a power supply for the turbines and the integrated lighting.
Most hoods are of the "filtering" or "suction" type. The charcoal filter recycling system (filtration mode) has the merit of eliminating a good part of the airborne grease, above the cooking, but it does not equal the conventional duct evacuation leading to outside. The simplest, if not, is to drill the wall with a bit wrench Ø 125 mm or larger.
The efficiency of a hood depends on its flow in cubic meters per hour. This measure must be proportional to the volume of the kitchen. for example, for a room of 30 m3, provide a hood with a flow rate of 240 to 300 m3 / h.
On the installation side, the distance between the hood and the hob generally varies from 65 cm (for an electric plate) to 70 cm (for gas burners). This measurement refers to the plate, or burners, up to the hood filter. Precision for gourmets, some preparations (crepe and banana flambé for example) are strictly prohibited near the hood. Nothing forbids, however, to perform them outside this sensitive area.

Cooktop: an easy assembly

The hob is installed directly on the worktop, in a recessed cutout. It must be centered between the uprights of the box that receives it. As the plates are often quite thin and well insulated, there is no contraindication to the present of a drawer underneath. Like our kitchen (model "Country line" by Schmidt).

The electrical connection is made directly in a wall box (2P + T), with dominoes or connectors of a suitable resistance.
Note that installers always replace existing wall outlets with a junction box, covered with a specific cover.

Traditional oven, steam and microwave: state of the art

The small microwave oven, to put on the worktop or on a wall shelf, is now competing with the models integrable, as new steam ovens. Also, is it not rare to see three appliances placed one above the other (traditional oven, microwave and steam).
If installing a steam oven, check with the vendor for the types of connections to be provided. Some professionally designed models require a water supply, sometimes even a waste water outlet, in addition to the necessary electrical connection. A peculiarity that can be found on the new refrigerators "American", to produce ice cubes and fresh water. But they are usually satisfied with a simple water supply (in addition to the electrical connection).

Levels: starting on a good foundation

check furniture levels

When all the furniture is mounted and connected together, check the levels carefully and adjust if necessary with the help of the small screw jacks at the bottom of the body. A bad aplomb may hinder later, when embedding an oven or refrigerator (unsightly edges because not aligned).

Embed an electric cooktop

embed a baking tray

As for a sink, embedding the hob requires cutting the worktop with a jigsaw. If you do not master the plunge cut technique, drill a hole at each corner to engage the blade. The work comes down to connecting them as straight as possible. Use a thick enough blade to saw well perpendicular to the plane.

Induction hob and connection wiring

Depending on the model and the manufacturer, the hobs are delivered with or without power cable. This, induction, has a good length of wiring for its connection.

Connect into the recess box

connection in the recess box

Finished the era of major household appliances plugged into a wall outlet, even with pins of strong section. Today, the connection is made in the recess box, protected by a plate.

Seal

seal between the plate and the worktop

The sealing between the hob and the worktop is provided by a flexible seal. Strip it on 10 cm, and put it down by removing the protective film. Cut right at each angle.

Lay the hob

fixing an induction plate

Run the cable through the opening and then present the hob by gently leaning it against the cutout. Then, slide it gently towards the bottom, without letting go.

Connect the cable

cable connection

If the table is a little heavy, accompany its implementation by sliding a hand underneath. This will avoid pinching your fingertips. Finally, connect the cable to its wall box.

Embed an electric oven

embed an oven

When the junction box is placed behind the space in the oven, it is advisable to provide a support, the time of the connection. A small workbench is always welcome in this case.

Push the oven

position the oven

Position the oven well in front of the box and push gently to slide it to the bottom. If the cable gets stuck, take a few inches to release it and push again.

Check the installation of the oven

checking the opening of the oven

Once the oven is recessed in its housing, make sure that nothing hinders the opening of the door and that the edges of its facade, folded sheet metal, perfectly fit the uprights of the box.

Fix the oven

fixing the oven

Fix the oven on the edges of the box by four screws, adjusting your screwdriver on an average torque not to force at the end of screwing. The melamine agglomeration of the caissons hardly supports the excesses.

Integrate a fridge or freezer

integration of a fridge

The built-in refrigerator must also be connected before it is put in place. The space reserved is often "tailor-made" and it is necessary to spread the thrust on the whole facade so that it engages thoroughly.

Fix in high and low parts

fixing the refrigerator

At the top of the unit, blocking is ensured by a specific profile, screwed under the shelf of the box. A locking system, also by screwing, completes the maintenance in the lower part.

Seal

laying a flexible joint

Finally, a specific flexible seal ensures the seal between the left side of the refrigerator and the amount of the box. He is simply engaged by pressing gradually with the thumb.

Fix the refrigerator door

fixing the freezer door

The attachment of the refrigerator door on the inside of the matching facade is very simple. It consists of two sliding rules, which are placed in the upper and lower parts of the door.

Solidarize the furniture amounts

attaching the refrigerator to the doors

Once the two rulers are in place, open the refrigerator door wide, press the front of the cabinet and secure it by screwing. Two fixing points are sufficient for each rule.

Hide the bindings

For aesthetic reasons, the screws of the rules disappear under a matching cover. Clip it on one side then press on the other. Convenient, this system can be disassembled in a few moments if necessary.
