Install composite panels and glass wool under roof

It is possible to obtain reinforced insulation by combining semi-rigid glass wool panels and composite sheets (mineral wool of various thicknesses glued on BA 13). These plates are 1.20 m wide and 2.50 m to 3 m high). This installation offers a surface suitable for decoration while having a very effective insulating underlayer.

Necessary material

  • Handsaw
  • Metal ruler
  • Metre
  • Hammer
  • Drill
  • Screwdriver
  • Trowel
  • Knife to coat
  • Trowel
  • trowel
  • Joint tape
  • coating
  • Screw
  • washers

Steps

  1. Insulation of the under-roof and measures
  2. Cutting and fixing of composite panels
  3. Application of plaster and finishes

Insulation of the under-roof and measures

Insulation of the under-roof and measures

1. The insulation of the underlays is made with glass wool in semi-rigid panels. The glass wool roll is not usable here, even if the chevron is regular: indeed, the insulating layer must be bare, because the vapor barrier is integrated into the composite panel. Cut the glass wool panels to the sides between the rafters (adding 2 cm) and wedge them between them.

2. Put a composite panel drop in contact with the chevron; you thus determine the line of junction with the wall. Draw it on the vertical panel.

3. Trace on the ruler on the wall the mark of the level that will reach the composite panel, then set under rampant. In this way, you can accurately determine the height of crawling to dress.

4. Rectangular plates may be laid vertically or horizontally, depending on the layout best suited to the framing and the consumption of the panels. According to this choice, postpone the measurement taken, according to the cuts that will be necessary.

5. The junction of the under-crawling plate and the nude of the wall (facing of a vertical plate, traditional plaster, etc.) involves the cutting at an angle of one of the songs. The fall already used allows easy tracing. It is also possible to calculate this angle, then to draw it; this calculation is necessary if the wall is not straight (in fact, if its thickness is not constant).

Cutting and fixing of composite panels

Cutting and fixing of composite panels

1. Cut the angle with a fine-toothed handsaw or, better still, with a special saw designed for cutting plasterboard. To prevent the saw from catching in the glass wool, it is possible to split it beforehand along the future line of cut. The sawing is always done by turning the panel so that the plasterboard is located towards the operator. Be careful not to pinch the blade and do not chip the plate.

2. The flow of plates in full panel does not pose particular difficulties, provided always place the facing upwards. Caution: Sawing plasterboard always produces a lot of dust. Plan to dress appropriately, and sweep regularly.

3. The panels must be fixed on the rafters so mark their location on the intermediate faults and on the vertical wall facing. Otherwise, you will work in the near-by.

4. The crawling fixing of composite panels is done with special screws, comparable to those used for ordinary plasterboard (countersunk screws and cross recess): but they are much longer, given the thickness often very important of the panel. Special washers are also used: they contribute to the strength of the fastening by spreading over a zone wider than a simple screw head the tension that tends towards tearing. By preforming the housing of these washers in the plasterboard which is the facing of the panel, it can drown the screw heads and then hide them with plaster.

Application of plaster and finishes

Application of plaster and finishes

1. By putting two plates side by side, you will find that the seal is strongly marked. Indeed, the edges of the plasterboard constituting the facing of the panel are slightly thinned. At assembly, we get a small groove. It is then easy to apply the finishing plaster, which hangs so much better than if the two plates were edge to edge. You can prepare powder coating, or use it ready-to-use, designed specifically for plasterboard. Apply a good coat, well distributed with a plaster knife (large spatula).

2. It is possible to use traditional calico to cover the cracks of a ceiling. But the tape, special, strong paper, is better: pierced with a multitude of small holes, it is slightly thinned around the edges and grooved in its center. Immediately after passing the first layer of plaster in the joint (so-called bonding layer), place the rough side of the strip over the joint, and apply it strongly with the plaster knife. Take the opportunity to remove excess coating. Then cover the tape with a thin layer of plaster.

3. Let the plaster layer dry completely. Then apply one or more topcoats, using a coating knife, or a trowel: this trowel allows you to treat a larger width at one time (the width of the completely finished joint must be 30 about mm). At the crossing of two joints (jointing of four plates), the bands must not overlap, in order to avoid any extra thickness.
