I would like to know if we can put floating floors on old carpet?
No it is never recommended to place floating floors on a carpet, unless it is a needled flat in very good condition. Keeping the carpet, you risk excessive elasticity, resonance and sagging of the carpet according to its wear that could move the floor.
My advice would be to remove it, make a patch if necessary and lay a sub-layer designed to be both thermal and sound insulation.
