Insulation of attic that can be converted from the inside

For the implementation of the thermo-acoustic insulation of attics, a new process has been developed. It replaces the air space, built under the roofing material, with a HPV (Highly Steam Permeable) underfloor screen and the vapor barrier of the insulation, with a climatic hygro-regulating membrane "Vario Duplex ". This system, under Technical Notice, "Vario Roofing" which is implemented from the inside, allows a reinforced insulation by a better capacity to maintain the framework out of any condensation, whatever the season, while improving its tightness to the 'air. Moreover, thanks to the high technicality of the climatic membrane, the frame breathes and does not fear any humidity.

Principle of insulation from the inside

The photo explains the implementation of attic insulation convertible by the conventional system with a two-layer insulation. The first, without vapor barrier, is placed between the rafters, its thickness corresponding to their height. The thickness of the air space is given by the thickness of the battens where the tiles of the roof cling. The second layer of insulation, provided with a vapor barrier, is mounted on metal furs held by lines fixed on the rafters. Finally, the facing plates (BA 13) are screwed onto the metal furs.

The "Vario Roofing" system implements the insulation of the attics in a different way. When mounting the cover by the roofer, an under-roof screen called HPV (black) must be fixed, stretched beforehand on the rafters. The cover material (red) and its wooden support (lattis or battens) is laid next. There stops the work of the roofer.

1. As for the example of conventional implementation, two thicknesses of insulation (Isoconfort) are used but both without vapor barrier. The first is housed between the rafters, pushed against the black under-roof screen. Its thickness corresponds to the height of the rafters that it is thus flush. The cut is made to the size of their spacing, increased by one centimeter which allows to wedge the insulation.

2. The second layer of insulation is then put in place, hooked directly onto the lines of the Optima system. These lines will have been previously placed on the rafters and aligned with a line. Non-professionals will benefit from being two for these operations.

1. The fur siding will be lined with a special double-sided adhesive (Vario KB1). The Vario Duplex membrane is then rolled over the entire surface of the insulation by strips in the direction of the slope of the roof. These strips must overlap by at least 10 centimeters and are held by a double-sided strip placed between the overlaps.

2. Once the first unwrapped, along the inner wall of the pinion, place a generous bead of mastic (Vario DS) on the wall, flush with the insulation and apply on top of the protruding part of the membrane that you took the care of letting go. This allows airtightness of the periphery of the attic.

3. Fix the membrane that you have unwound, stretched as best as possible on the double-sided that garnishes the facing of the metal furs. Check the tightness of the laps overlaps and collages at the periphery.

4. Drill the membrane at the intended locations of the duct passages and other ducts and dress these holes with special adhesive grommets (Passelec) for the ducts, and special adhesive (Vario KB 3) to seal the passages of the others ducts.

5. Install and screw on the furs, facing plates that complete the insulation of these attics. Cut along the siding, any overtaking of the membrane.
