Non-ferrous metals. Precious metals
White shiny gray.
Malleable at room temperature, it is rarely used alone. Solid silver is actually an alloy with a small proportion of copper (5 to 7%). Excellent electrical and thermal conductivity. Susceptible to sulphides present in the air. Money recycles very well since the production of recycled silver represents 25% of the total production.
Tendency to tarnish.
Silver oxide tarnishes and protects the surface of the metal.
The vermeil: solid silver covered by a thin layer of gold deposited by electrolysis. Silver metal: silver deposited by electrolysis on a non-ferrous metal (copper, zinc...).
Silver and nickel alloy used for moving contacts of switches and circuit breakers.
Fields of application of DIY:
Electricity: switch connections, circuit breakers. Manufacture of mirrors. Decoration: glitter added to varnishes to sparkle decorative objects
