How to choose the veranda in aluminum?

Generally located in the extension of the living room, the veranda reflects a desire to live better at home. It also offers the prospect of a added value if you sell your house.

95% of the verandahs are aluminum

The veranda (95% of the models are made of aluminum) forms a construction in its own right. Its implementation requires a army slab (which must support the weight of the structure), a separation with the existing frame and a careful treatment of risk points (see diagram).
The thermal quality of glazing is essential and depends on the air gap between the two windows. More or less wide, this range can accommodate argon (a more insulating gas than dehydrated air).
For summer comfort, low-emissivity glazings have an oxide treatment on one of their faces. The filler panels can be polycarbonate (cheaper) or sandwich type. What do all these coefficients mean for a porch?

  • The coefficient Uw corresponds to the thermal resistance of the whole joinery, glazing and uprights. The lower it is, the more the joinery is thermally efficient.
  • The Ug coefficient measures the thermal loss of the glazing, that is to say its ability to maintain the indoor temperature. The lower it is, the more the glazing is insulating. High performance double glazing can have a value close to 1.1 W / m².K when standard double glazing is around 2.8 W / m².K.
  • TL (light transmission) is expressed as a percentage. The higher it is, the greater the amount of natural light entering.
  • The solar factor (Fs or Sw), between 0 and 1, indicates the ability of a window to collect heat gains from the sun. The higher it is, the more the window passes solar energy. To verify the solar control of a glazing, the division of the light transmission by the solar factor (TL / Fs), must approach 2.
  • Manufacturers indicate other information, such as FE for low emissivity glazings, ITR for reinforced thermal insulation (argon between the glazings), RPT or WE for thermal bridge breakers. The series of numbers, for example 4/20/4, indicate double glazing 28 mm thick (4 mm glass and 20 mm air gap).

What VAT for a veranda?

The VAT applied to the creation of a veranda is 20%. Only two exceptions benefit from the reduced rate of 10%, of course by applying to a company: if the veranda replaces an older one of the same area or if the increase in floor area of ​​the building remains less than 9 m² and at 10% of the total floor area (house and veranda) before work.
