Set detectors to a self-powered alarm

Alarms are modernizing. Now wireless, they incorporate new features related to the advent of new communication technologies: ability to control its installation on the internet, receiving an intrusion alert on his mobile phone. Classical equipment has thus been improved. Some, for example, now offer outdoor sirens with flash that signal sound and optics, the house in which the attempted break-in takes place. The installation of these alarms is simple because it is essentially based on two protection systems: a motion detector and an opening detector for doors and windows. Added to this is the deterrence by alarm function: indoor and outdoor siren (on some models). These systems are adaptable to be extended to the surveillance of a gate or to combine with the automatic operation of the shutters.

Necessary material

  • Metre
  • Marker pen
  • Drill
  • Phillips screwdriver

Steps

  1. The alarm kit
  2. Placement of the opening detectors
  3. Placement of motion detectors
  4. The setting of the alarm is done on two supports

The alarm kit

All the devices that make up the kit

All the devices that make up the kit

The alarm kit proposed here (Protexiom 600) includes:

  • a telephone transmitter (to be placed next to a telephone socket and the ADSL box / modem);
  • an indoor alarm siren;
  • an outdoor alarm siren with flash;
  • opening detectors (doors and windows);
  • motion detectors (places of passage and rooms);
  • a control box with keyboard;
  • a remote control (on / off + zones);
  • badges.

Placing batteries in the devices

Placing batteries in the devices

The main elements of a control panel are powered by batteries, which eliminates the consequences of any network interruptions, caused or not. The duration of the batteries has also been improved since it has been extended to four years.

Placement of the opening detectors

Blanking of the opening detector

Blanking of the opening detector

1. An opening detector comprises two parts: the detector to be placed on the frame and the magnet carrier to be placed on the opening. Put them first blank, respecting their perfect alignment.

Marking of the piercing points

2. Trace on the frame and opening of the door or window, the drilling points corresponding to the fixing holes of the two parts of the detector.

Fixing elements by screwing

3. On very hard wood, drill pilot holes (drill bit smaller than the screws used) before making the fastening of the pedestals.

Setting up the magnet

4. Install the shim (s) on the magnet carrier according to the configuration (sash thickness) of the assembly to be protected.

Attaching the detector cover

5. Place the hood on the detector and screw it on each side. Fastening by screwing increases safety because it takes longer to be forced than a simple unclipping. In addition, any attempt to neutralize or tear one of the elements triggers the alarm by the siren.

Functional test of the opening detector

6. Test the opening detector you just installed. Press the cover button and open: the indicator lights up red and beeps.

Placement of motion detectors

Height measurement (2.30 m) for the installation of a motion detector

Height measurement (2.30 m) for the installation of a motion detector

1. The installation of motion detectors requires placing them at 2.30 m from the ground, often in an opposite angle to an opening or at the end of a corridor. The preliminary definition of a general laying plan according to the angles and distances of detection and the sensitive places of the habitat, is an essential precaution.

Marking of the piercing points

2. As with the opening sensors, mark in pencil the drilling points on the motion sensor base.

3. Perform drilling, pegging and screwing adapted to the nature of the walls concerned. Be careful, these holes in the corners of the walls, are not the easiest to achieve because of the angles of attack.

4. Place the detector by screwing it on its base, a more secure method of attachment than simply clipping.

5. Perform the function test on the device in the same way that you tested the opening sensors. A red light turns on: the detection is activated.

Installation of the indoor siren

Installation of the indoor siren

6. The central telephone transmitter (the heart of the system) and the inner siren (photo) will be fixed to the wall and preferably to a place that puts them out of the usual reach. The plant can even be hidden. The indoor siren, recommended for a single-storey dwelling or more than 100 m2, develops a progressive power of 112 dB. Its installation is recommended in a central location of the house but out of usual reach (stairwell for example).

Setting up the outdoor siren

7. Install the outdoor siren, also out of the usual range, but taking into account some visibility (also dissuasive) so that its flash is noticeable from the neighborhood and especially from the street. Its progressive sound intensity can reach 108 dB.

Fixing the control box

8. Install the control box near the entrance door of the home. On the other hand, think that it is accessible even to children of age to use it.

The setting of the alarm is done on two supports

Setting via the internet network

Setting via the internet network

1. With all the alarm system devices installed, battery-powered and positively tested, set it up by connecting the control panel to the internet network.

2. You can also set up your installation simply and intuitively using the keypad of the control box. Drop-down menus guide you through the commissioning of your system. The telephone transmitter with computer interface also allows a quick and comfortable setting from your computer. You can also have telephone voice assistance for these operations.

3. Thus the whole of your home, thanks to the possibilities of extension of the systems, can be under the protection of the various sensitive points both inside and outside. This allows you a comfort of family life in peace and serenity.
