For a front door, it's more accurate to talk about hinge rather than hinge. If the hinges are secure, the door opens easily. When the screws do not hold anymore, it blocks. In this case, replace the existing screws with others of the same diameter but longer. If this is not enough, you have to enlarge the holes left by the screws, then fill them with wooden dowels before fixing the hinges again.
To know! To dismantle the door, the two parts of the hinge disengage: lift the door levering with a crowbar or a big screwdriver.
Disassemble and clean the hinge
Remove the damaged screw. Leave the hinge in place and check its alignment. Use it as a guide to drill a 6mm diameter hole in a wood drill bit in the hole left by the old screw. Disassemble the hinge (take the opportunity to clean it).
Insert an ankle
Coat a hardwood peg (dowel) 6 mm in diameter with white glue. Push it forcibly into the previously drilled hole. Cut the excess of ankle with a chisel or a cutter.
Reassemble the hinge
To facilitate the passage of the new screw, drill a pilot hole 2 mm in diameter in the dowel. Reassemble the hinge. If necessary, do the same for the other part of the hardware attached to the door.
