Repairing cracks in interior walls

Moving cracks, also called active or live cracks, are cracks that evolve over time. They can get bigger with the movements of the house and extreme weather conditions (frost, prolonged drought...). Depending on the evolution of the materials, Toupret's "Stopper Fissures" flexible coating makes it possible to seal these cracks in an efficient and sustainable way.

Necessary material

  • Knife to be covered
  • Brush to dust off
  • Cutter
  • Triangular scraper
  • Cartridge gun
  • Sponge

Steps

  1. Prepare the support
  2. Adapt the amount of coating to the crack

Prepare the support

Opening the crack with a triangular scraper

Opening the crack with a triangular scraper

With a triangular scraper or a painter's knife, widen the crack to form a gutter. Eliminate friable parts on the edges and at the bottom. By thus increasing its surface, you facilitate the application of the coating and promote adhesion and stability

Clean the crack

Dust off the entire surface as well as the inside of the crack.

Adapt the amount of coating to the crack

Cut of the cannula of the cartridge to the diameter of the crack

Cut of the cannula of the cartridge to the diameter of the crack

The coating is contained in a cartridge with a cannula. The diameter varies according to the position: the closer it is to the cartridge, the more important it is. Cut the cannula according to the dimensions of the cracks. For wide cracks, cut flush with the cartridge. To close fine cracks, leave more length. Use a cutter and cut at an angle.

Install the cartridge

Put the cartridge in the gun

Install the cartridge into an extruder gun. Block the cartridge.

Remove the coating

Gently squeeze the trigger on the gun to pull the coating out of the cannula. Keep the pressure until you get a bead of homogeneous mastic. Deposit gently at the bottom of the crack, from one end to the other.

Spread and smooth

Spread the plaster evenly over the entire surface of the crack. Make sure that the cavity is perfectly filled without holes or air. You can do this by hand or with a spatula. Then make a pass with a sponge slightly wet and soapy. Allow at least one day of drying before painting.
