Restoring an anchor in a plasterboard is often tricky. The solution: use a liquid anchor, simple and quick to install.
• Prepare everything you need before you start: you will only have a few seconds to intervene.
• After use, remove the mixing cannula and refill the product. The cannula is for single use.
It is relatively easy to hang heavy objects on a partition or plasterboard doubling: parallel to the plate, the load is exerted vertically and can be distributed over several anchors. On the other hand, if the traction is perpendicular to the wall, the resistance of the anchorage may be insufficient even for light objects.
Plaster: careful, fragile.
The plasterboard has many advantages. But the lightness of the material makes it inoperative for the anchoring and the support of equipment if the choice of the anchors is poorly adapted.
In the present case, a wire curtain is suspended from a cable stretched between two plasterboard partitions. Its low weight does not affect the attachment, but the tension of the cable is important enough that the rocking pegs tear off the plate.
The position of the curtain can vary only a few centimeters. A second piercing is therefore unthinkable. Only solution: repair the previous hole and put a new fixation.
Hard as wood
The heavy solution is to consolidate the partition before filling it with plaster. It is also much longer than installing a liquid dowel. System that has been selected ("fill & fix" by Ficher). It derives directly from the chemical anchors used by building professionals. Its advantages: a great simplicity of use and a lower cost. Injected into the hole to be repaired, the resin hardens in a few minutes. As hard as wood, it is pierced to support the new anchorage.
Intended for small repairs and the fixation of objects of average size (coat hooks, lighting fixtures...), the resin is used in all types of materials. Full (even wood) or hollow (brick, block, plasterboard) because its volume increases during hardening, ensuring a perfect fit. Once in place, it can be sanded and painted.
Available in DIY superstores, a liquid dowel is in the form of a double tube equipped with a pusher. The amalgam of the two components is carried out in the cannula which injects the product into the space to be recapped. The kit includes two extensions for small diameter holes and four sieves required for hollow material injection. The cartridge is designed for four holes (Ø 10 mm, depth 50 mm).
Cable tension and plaster strength
The tension of the cable that supports the curtain is too strong for the strength of the plasterboard. The rocker pin that was previously installed does not resist tearing.
Extract the ankle
Unscrew the cable anchor and pull the plug into place (if necessary, push it back into the wall). The hole that appears should be wide enough to accommodate the sieve tube.
Insert the sieve
Slide the screen into the hole until it is flush with the drywall. This sieve is used to contain the expansion of the chemical anchor and to correctly orient the direction of screwing.
Stall the sieve if necessary
When the hole is too big, you can wedge the sieve using small pieces of wood (match) or small plaster debris.
Fill the sieve
Screw the mixing cannula onto the cartridge and then squeeze the trigger. As soon as the product coming out is homogeneous, fill the sieve by three quarters.
Insert the fixing screw
Within one minute after the injection, insert the fixing screw. Print a rotating motion so that the thread adheres to the resin all over its surface.
Eliminate the surplus and retouch
Eliminate excess liquid ankle. If necessary, you can make a small touch to the smoothing plaster. Finish with a slight paint job.
Hang the cable and put in tension
Hang the cable with the curtain within five minutes of inserting the dowel and screw. Immediately put the cable into correct tension.
