With the new generation units with soft heat, we now enjoy a level of comfort close to that of central heating. In addition, with a minimum of tools, the installation of an electric heater is simple to achieve.
The soft heat is based on the principle of "dry inertia", which uses a resistor coated with a ceramic accumulator material, active cast iron, steatite... This device stores the heat and restores it slowly in a homogeneous way, without drying out the heat. air of the room.
More efficient still, the soft heat produced by the installed model ("Calidou" of Noirot) offers the double advantage of an active cast iron heating core, which provides an enveloping heat, and a radiant facade. This ensures a rapid rise in temperature, by irradiating the surrounding surfaces (walls, floor, furniture...).

The installation takes place here replacing a radiant panel that has had its day. The connection box is already in place, the work is facilitated. If there is no dedicated circuit, it must be done first from the distribution board (recessed or exposed line, under molding or PVC baseboard). However, in all cases, the specifications of standard NF C 15-100 must be complied with (see Practical advice on page 60). The various functions (comfort, economy, frost protection...) are complemented by an automatic open window detection. If you forget to stop the heating before airing, the radiator goes to sleep as soon as it detects the temperature drop. Like most recent models, the unit is designed to be connected in series with other radiators in the same installation via a pilot wire connected to a centralized programmer.
If the addition of a pilot wire is problematic (in the case of a renovation of an occupied dwelling, for example), it is possible to equip the radiators with receiver modules operating by radio waves or by power line (PLC)..
Centralized management saves up to 25% on the heating bill.
However, given the price per kWh of electricity (and its constant increases), this heating mode is really profitable only with good thermal insulation.
The steps of installing an electric heater
Present the anchor plate on the wall, adjusting it to the level required by the instructions.
The bottom of the radiator must not be less than 15 cm from the ground.
Mark the fixing points through the perforations: there are 4 or 6 depending on the format of the device.
Drill the wall, put suitable dowels, then screw the backsplash.
Class II, this model of radiator does not need to be connected to the ground.
As it is used alone, we choose here to cut the pilot wire (always black).
Make the connection using dominoes respecting the polarities: neutral (blue wire) and phase (red).
Do not connect anything to the ground conductor of the supply circuit.
Before suspending your radiator, insert the FP transmitter cassette in its slot. It allows individual or zone control (several devices) of electric heating.
Lock the radiator cord in the cable outlet and secure it to the junction box.

• The latest evolution of the standard NF C 15-100 sets four maximum power levels for an electrical heating circuit: 3,500, 4,500, 5,750 and 7,250 W. The wiring section and the rating of the division circuit breaker increase accordingly: 1.5 mm2/ 16A, 2.5mm2 / 20A, 4mm2 / 25A and 6mm2/ 32 A. Beyond 7,250 W of installed capacity, the installation of a new circuit is necessary.

Expansion anchors in plasterboard withstand heavy loads.
