I have to redo a living room. The current wall covering is a vinyl stuck on a thin layer of polystyrene insulation (roll) itself stuck on the wall. What effective solutions can you give me to remove this glue between the ripe and the thin layer (glue deposited with a notched knife)?

The polystyrene coating you found under vinyl is probably Depron. It is a wall covering expanded polystyrene very thin (3 or 6 mm) that is glued on the walls to prevent cold wall phenomena and therefore condensation. If it was laid there, it is surely not a coincidence! You will have a hard time tearing the vinyl without damaging it. It is better to remove it as well, to rest a new layer. You can then paint or rest the coating of your choice.
